Sunday April 25, 2010   Toronto Amsterdam, NL

An overnight flight will take you across the Atlantic Ocean to Amsterdam. 

 

Monday April 26   Amsterdam

Upon arrival at Amsterdam/Schiphol airport, transfer to the heart of Amsterdam, as the Amacello is moored behind Central Rail Station along the IJ Canal. You will be greeted by the fine Amadeus Waterways staff with a welcome drink and they will take you to your stateroom, your home for the week. The Cruise Director will brief you, and you will have some time to explore the 700 year old European capital with its elegant and classic architecture, cafes, restaurants and lively marketplaces. Perhaps visit a museum, gallery, coffee house or famous back ally. Tonight, meet your fellow passengers onboard for the Welcome Dinner. (D)

 

Tuesday April 27   Amsterdam Volendam  Edam

After breakfast, enjoy a comprehensive morning boat ride through the historic canals of Amsterdam. Return to the ship for a scenic lunch, while you cruise the IJsselmeer towards Volendam. Enjoy a late afternoon scenic drive to the village of Edam, famous for its tasty cheese. Cruise through the night to Arnhem. (B, L, D)

 

Wednesday April 28   Arnhem Nijmegen

Arrive in Arnhem early morning and see the site of the Battle for Arnhem Bridge during Allied Operation Market Garden. Then visit Museum Hartenstein, which shows the course of events during the Battle of Arnhem, one of the major battles of World War II. After the tour, return to the ship for lunch and cruise to Nijmegen for some free time in the city. Later on this evening the ship will cruise through Holland and on to Belgium. Imagine the sun setting on the waters while you lounge on deck. (B, L, D)

 

Thursday April 29   Antwerp, Belgium

This morning, a guided sightseeing tour of Antwerp, one of the world's most important ancient seaports will delight you. See the Grote Market with its beautiful city hall and the Church of Our Lady, and admire the city's superb architecture. The afternoon is free to explore Antwerp or take an optional excursion to nearby Brussels. After dinner, the Amacello departs for Ghent. (B, L, D)

 

Friday April 30   Ghent

After breakfast come on the guided sightseeing tour of Ghent, the fourth largest city of Belgium. This city is the diamond of Flanders, preserving its medieval charm while remaining current with the times. Modern architecture blends with remnants of the past. Take the time to visit ''Castle of the Counts'', a real medieval castle in the center of town. The afternoon is yours to explore Ghent at leisure or to take an optional excursion to Brugges, which is one of Europe's most perfectly preserved medieval cities. Brugge's historical city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (B, L, D)

 

 

Saturday May 1   Willemstad, NL Dordrecht

This morning, sail through the Dutch waterways of the province Zeeland. This region is home to one of the world's most complex engineering projects, the Delta Works, which keeps back the North Sea and took more than 30 years to complete. You will pass some of its magnificent structures, and then stop in charming Willemstad for a walking tour. Return to the ship and while you are having lunch enjoy the splendid scenery as you sail towards Dordrecht and the 18th century windmills of Kinderdijk, the largest group of original windmills in Holland. Tonight's entertainment is reserved for a special music onboard performance.     (B, L, D)

 

Sunday May 2   Utrecht Keukenhof Amsterdam

A Sunday morning breakfast sailing through the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal on your way to Utrecht, sounds like a dream, but it is happening in front of your eyes. Admire the spectacular display of bulb flowers in bloom during your excursion to the famous Keukenhof Gardens. Keukenhof also contains ponds, sculpture gardens, greenhouses, a windmill which can be toured and several terraces to relax on. Return to your ship in Amsterdam for lunch and enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure with perhaps a stroll through the city which sits right on your doorstep? And then it is time for the farewell dinner; saying good bye to new found friends and toasting to a grand experience. (B, L, D)

Monday May 3   Disembark Ship Amsterdam Toronto
                          or Join the Liberation Land Tour

After breakfast cruise passengers will bid farewell to the Amacello's crew and take a transfer to the Amsterdam/ Schiphol airport for their flight home or meet Ineke and her companions on the Liberation Land Tour. (B)
